Death or Career Ending Injury Benefit

Statement of Intent:
It is the intention of the IPLEA board to provide a monetary death benefit to beneficiaries of qualifying members of the association or to members who received career ending injury which is directly attributed to their duties and responsibility's as a law enforcement officer for their agency.

Procedure:
1) The president of the association shall call a meeting of the board in January of each year for the purpose of conducting regular business and to:
a) Determine a sum of money, which shall be known as the association's death and career ending injury benefit.
b) Review claims from the preceding calendar year.
2) The secretary/treasurer of the association shall account for the benefit separately from the other monetary assets of the association.
3) The board at its sole discretion shall determine the amount that any individual claimant will be entitled to.
4) A qualifying claim shall be:
a) Made by a member or beneficiary of a member who holds or held an active individual membership in good standing.
b) Shall be directly related to members duties and responsibilities with its employing agency.
5) A claim shall:
a) Be in writing and on a form supplied by the board.
b) Include all supporting documents that the board may request.
c) Be submitted by January 17th of the calendar year following the death or career ending injury.
